Soar Valley Committee Annual Reports

Chairmans Report

Wow! What a season!

We've had highs and lows, tears and laughs, but what a lovely, lively little club we are.

The weather this season has proved extreme and saw the first show cancelled as the ground was underwater after the worst spring weather for years. Then we were faced with the hottest summer for decades and the ground was so hard we felt it only right to limit some of the higher jumping classes. This meant that we were a little down on entries but no less commitment.

The talent we have in our club is amazing and our member's and visitors suprise and humble us at every show. Our young riders are simply adorable, polite, funny and yes occasionally there may be a tear but with gentle encouragement they are exceeding their goals.

The dressage this season has been busy again with some excellent scores and riding. You are all improving show by show (watch out Karl & Charlotte!) one or two of you I'm sure are destined for the Olympics!!

STARS - This was the first year for this Championship show and we decided we would like to try and send some of our members. To be eligible you had to be a member of our club and and compete at 3 or more shows. Points were allocated in the same way as always and the points winner in most classes (showing) was asked if they would like to represent Soar Valley at Aintree no less! A few winners were unable to go and so the position went to the next in line. We had 8 members all ready to go and between them they competed in 12 classes. There were 60 clubs forward so the classes were very big and full of people from all walks of life. Many of them had never been in an indoor arena so nerves did play a part.

Our little team were absolutely fabulous. They took part in their classes, went on a tour round Aintree and had demos and help clinics. This seemed to do the trick because we did SO WELL!!! Out of 60 clubs we came 24th!!!! A massive achievement. To say we are proud is an understatement. In one class our tiny little jockey came 4th out of over 40 entries! Amazing and a humongous well done to Ilyada, Holly, Anya, Becky, Hannah, Lauren, Charlotte and Sophie. XX

Everyone and anyone can go to STARS. Its all about being a member and collecting points. Ponies must be vaccinated (it is a world famous race track after all).

Next year we are told that it will include Working Hunter so come on jumping crew your time has come! We have affiliated again this year but we have to send 15 competitors so no pressure!!!!

The 2019 season is about to be on us, so gird up your loins its nearly Spring!

Hope to see you all on the 14th April for the first show, yes ponies will be hairy and it might be cold but I'm sure we will get the best out of all of you.

See you all very soon. I can't wait its going to be GREAT!!!

Secretary's Report

2018 was a very difficult year for me. The months following the death of John, my beloved husband of 45 years in September 2017 and Woody my lovely dog just 3 months later, were very difficult for me and I found it hard to cope. As a consequence I only briefly attended one show. Then, in Septemeber of 2018 I suffered a fractured knee which was followed some 8 weeks later with food poisioning! The good side however was the arrival in July of a new dog Arnie, an 8 month old Border Terrier/Chihuahua, from the RSPCA.

As far as the club is concerned, membership numbers were down on 2017 going from 159 to 137. However, non-member numbers attending, appeared to be stable. The Early Bird offer seemed to work very well and a large number of people had joined by the February cut-off date.

Last year the club had the added problem of the new Data Protection Regulations coming into force in May. This involved much work to ensure that we complied with the regulations which entailed members having to sign the necessary consent for the Club to hold their details. The paper membership forms are now shredded as soon as the details are on the computer. Previously these had been shredded at the end of the season. The computer itself is password protected. All the data has also been transferred to an encrypted flash drive.

To continue to comply with Data Protection, all members will need to sign a consent form, even if you signed one last year, and to sign for and name everyone who's name is on the membership form. To make this easier for members, the consent form has been printed on the reverse of the membership form and I hope that everyone will help us with this matter by completing and signing this, Thanks in advance!

As in the past few years, NO new memberships will be taken on show days. Anyone wishing to join on the day will, as before, be given a membership form. Once the form is completed this needs to be put in the envolope provided, together with the joining fee (cash or cheque) and can then be handed in to the Entry Box or posted to myself for processing. (Please do not send cash by post).

While anyone requesting a membership on the day will have to pay non-member prices for their classes that day, any points accrued will go towards the end of year trophies. All class entries at subsequent shows will, of course, qualify for the reduced Member's rates.

Membership cards, bonus cards and booklet schedules WILL NOT be sent in the post. The club simply cannot afford the postage to send these to members. They will be in the Entry Box for collection as per previous years.

If anyone would like to receive their membership packs before coming to the show can you please enclose a SAE C5 size when you send in your membership form. These will be returned in early March when all the paperwork has been completed. All membership forms received will, where possible, be acknowledged by email.

Once again, a gentle reminder that you must show your membership card each time you enter a class, so keep them handy at all times.

While I will not be on the showground on a regular basis, I remain the Club Secretary and will continue to do the background work as before. I will try to get ot as many shows as I can this year, so hopefully will see some of you there.

The dates for 2019 are as follows :

14th April

5th May

19th May

16th June

7th July

11th August

Hope you all have a super and happy season
